It was used as a low-calorie sweetener in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s. It is a salt of cyclohexylsulfamic acid. Sodium cyclamate is used as an NNS, and the analogous calcium salt is used especially in low-sodium diets. Cyclamate is 30 times sweeter than sucrose.
